Rules & Gameplay
The dealer draws one card from the shoe and places it face-up in the centre. This is the Joker — the card whose rank you are trying to match on either side.
Before dealing begins, place your bet on Andar (inside / left) or Bahar (outside / right). You are predicting which side will receive a card matching the Joker's rank first.
The dealer alternates cards between Andar and Bahar. If the Joker is a black suit, dealing starts on Andar. If it is red, dealing starts on Bahar. Cards continue until a match appears.
The round ends the moment a card matching the Joker's rank lands on either side. If that side matches your bet, you win. Winnings settle to your Bookmaker balance instantly.
Key point: The Joker's suit determines the starting side — black suits start on Andar, red suits start on Bahar. This is a detail that affects the house edge slightly and is worth remembering when choosing your side on Bookmaker.
Before the round begins, predict how many cards will be dealt before the match occurs. Ranges are typically 1 card, 2–5 cards, 6–10 cards, 11–15 cards or 16+ cards. Higher range bets pay more.
Bet on which suit the Joker card will be — Spades, Hearts, Clubs or Diamonds. Four equal possibilities, so it pays 3.75× on a correct prediction. Simple and popular on Bookmaker tables.
Simpler version of the suit bet — predict whether the Joker will be red (Hearts/Diamonds) or black (Spades/Clubs). Near-even odds at 1.9× payout. A gentle way to add an extra layer to any round.
Bet on whether the Joker will be Low (A–6), Mid (7–10) or High (J–K). Three groups of unequal size give different payouts. Mid-range (7–10) is statistically the most common result.
| Bet Type | Payout | RTP | House Edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Andar (black Joker) | 0.90× | 97.85% | 2.15% |
| Bahar (black Joker) | 1.00× | 97.85% | 2.15% |
| Andar (red Joker) | 1.00× | 97.85% | 2.15% |
| Bahar (red Joker) | 0.90× | 97.85% | 2.15% |
| Card Count — 1 card | 120× | ~94% | ~6% |
| Joker Suit | 3.75× | ~96% | ~4% |
| Joker Colour | 1.90× | ~97% | ~3% |
Statistically, the side that receives the first card has a very slight advantage in matching the Joker. This is why Bookmaker applies a reduced 0.9× payout to the starting-side bet and a full 1.0× payout to the non-starting side — it balances the house edge across both options.
For every Rs 100 bet in aggregate across millions of rounds, the game returns Rs 97.85 to players. Andar Bahar's house edge of roughly 2.15% is extremely competitive — lower than most slot games and comparable to Blackjack when basic strategy is not applied. It is one of the best-value live games on Bookmaker.
The Full Picture
Most card games take a while to get comfortable with. Baccarat has its third-card drawing rules. Blackjack requires memorising basic strategy. Teen Patti demands reading your opponents. Andar Bahar has none of these barriers. One joker card is placed on the table, you pick a side — Andar or Bahar — and you watch the cards fall until one matches the joker's rank. That is genuinely all there is to it. No complicated decisions, no memorisation required, no experience needed. This is exactly why Andar Bahar has been played at family gatherings and festive occasions across South Asia for generations, and it is why the live online version on Bookmaker attracts so many players who have never tried online card games before.
The game's origins are in South India, where it has been played for centuries under various names. Over time it spread northward and became embedded in the recreational culture of Pakistan as well — particularly in the Punjab and Sindh regions where card games are a common social activity. When Bookmaker set up its live Andar Bahar tables, we were not introducing something new to Pakistani audiences. We were giving people access to a game they already understood, in a format they could access from their phone without going anywhere, with bets and payouts in Pakistani Rupees.
What makes the Bookmaker version of Andar Bahar genuinely interesting is the live dealer format. You are not clicking buttons on a random number generator and watching a simulated animation. You are watching an actual dealer in a real studio deal physical cards from a physical shoe, streamed in HD to your screen in real time. The dealing rhythm, the card reveals, the moment of tension as each card flips and either matches or does not — all of this happens in front of your eyes with nothing hidden. The same card game your family plays at home, just with a professional dealer, a proper table, and real money on the line in PKR.
One thing players notice quickly about Andar Bahar on Bookmaker is the pace. Rounds rarely take more than 30 seconds. Once the joker is placed and you have made your bet, the dealing begins immediately and most rounds conclude within a handful of cards. Some rounds end in as few as one or two cards — rare but possible — and the longest rounds typically go to around 25–30 cards before a match appears. This fast pace means you can fit many rounds into a short session without feeling rushed, and it makes Andar Bahar an ideal choice for players who want live casino action without the slower deliberation of games like Blackjack or Baccarat Squeeze.
Bookmaker's platform is available in full on mobile browsers across Android and iOS, without any download needed. This is particularly relevant for Andar Bahar because of how the game is typically consumed — it is the kind of game you play in spare moments, a few rounds at lunch, a session after dinner. Having it accessible from your phone at any time with a stable 4G connection is what makes the Bookmaker version genuinely practical for Pakistani players living their normal lives.
Deposits work through every major Pakistani payment method — Easypaisa, JazzCash, NayaPay, SadaPay, bank IBFT and Visa/Mastercard. Minimum deposit is Rs 200 and funds arrive instantly, ready to bet immediately. When you win at Andar Bahar, the amount credits to your Bookmaker balance in real time after each round settles. Withdrawals go back to your wallet or bank in PKR, typically processed within five minutes. No conversion, no international transfer delays, no complications.
The minimum bet on Bookmaker's live Andar Bahar tables starts at Rs 50, which keeps the game accessible for players across all income levels. You can build from small stakes as you get comfortable, or move to higher-limit tables as your confidence grows. The side bets — Joker colour, Joker suit, card count — are entirely optional and can add extra excitement to individual rounds without requiring you to increase your main bet. Many experienced players on Bookmaker will place a modest main bet on Andar or Bahar and use side bets selectively when a specific Joker card feels worth predicting.
We want to mention responsible gaming directly because Andar Bahar's fast rounds can lead to sessions that feel shorter than they actually are. Thirty-second rounds are enjoyable, but they also mean that 60 rounds can pass in half an hour before you notice. Bookmaker provides session time reminders, deposit limits and loss limits that you can configure from your account settings before you start playing. If you feel things are moving faster than you are comfortable with, step back and use those tools. The Responsible Gaming page covers all available features in full detail.
Playing Smart
Remember that the side receiving the first card has a statistical edge. That side pays slightly less (0.9×) on Bookmaker to compensate. Neither choice is wrong — just understand the tradeoff before you bet.
Side bets like card count carry a higher house edge than the main bet. They are fun and can pay well when they land, but building your session around side bets rather than main Andar/Bahar bets will erode your balance faster over time.
Because rounds are so short, decide in advance how many rounds you want to play in a session rather than how much time you will spend. This keeps your session structured and prevents the fast pace from leading to unplanned extended play.
The demo table above (and the free demo mode available after registration on Bookmaker) lets you practise without stakes. Even a few minutes in demo mode will make you comfortable with the pace and the dealing sequence before committing real PKR.
